The Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) has transferred 180,5 million BGN to the state budget, sources from BNB informed.

This sum makes 75% from the annual excess of the revenues over expenditures of the BNB which is provided by the law should be transferred to the state budget. The sum is formed from the state currency reserve which is managed by the BNB, part of it is the Silver Fund.

This year's payment of the BNB to the state treasury is by 10% (20,3 million levs) less than the sum transferred in 2010 when some 200,9 million BGN were transferred to the state budget. The sums which the BNB transferred to the state budget in 2009 and 2008 are respectively 354,7 million BGN and 400,9 million BGN. The trend of lowering BNB contributions to the state budget is mainly due to the financial stagnation which started in 2008, experts comment.

Prime Minister of Azerbaidjan, Artur Rasizade proved to be a great fan of Bulgaria’s pop diva Lily Ivanova. He admitted it before his Bulgarian colleague Boiko Borisov in Baku. End-May Baku will host Eurovision song contest where Bulgaria will be represented by Romani nightingale Sofi Marinova. “I love listening to the music but I divided the singers I like into two-three groups. Lily Ivanova belongs to my top ten favorites,” Rasizade said with a smile after the discussion on gas supplies for Bulgaria.

Bulgarian PM Boyko Borissov, Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski, Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naydenov and Economy Minister Delyan Dobrev paid a two-day official visit to Azerbaijan.

Mr. Borissov sees the transportation of Azeri natural gas to Europe via Turkey as the continent’s only option to achieve diversification of its energy supplies and called for talks with his Turkish counterpart Recep Erdogan and European Commission President Jose Barroso.

Mr. Borissov added that the perspective of the Nabucco pipeline’s construction was too bleak and just as much uncertain, while the one of Bulgaria securing regular gas supplies from Azerbaijan was quite feasible in the context of the memorandum, signed between the Bulgarian energy holding and Azerbaijan’s gas company.
