Bulgaria settled part of its debt to the IMF ahead of schedule, the Finance Ministry said. Sofia has paid up some 151.4 million euros of its debts to the IMF. Bulgaria has covered six tranches of the two-year agreement with the IMF. This operation follows the one in the end of 2005 when Sofia paid off ahead of schedule three tranches to the tune of 147.4 million euro.
Bulgaria's debt to the IMF after the transactions stands at about 393.7 million euro.
According to the Finance Ministry the paying off the debt ahead of schedule will decrease Sofia’s foreign debt and state guaranteed debt, which stood at 5 390 million euro on December 31, 2005.
