Gosh that's a bit pricey for outdated Russian technology. A bulgarian friend of mine tells me that buying a car in Bulgaria is a lot more expensive than in the UK. Is this true, and if so, what are the alternatives? I thought about buying a car in Germany and bringing it over but again I am told that getting it into the country is a bit of a nightmare. Does anybody know if this is the case?
Thanks for the very useful information though.

Buying a car in Germany or Holland is definitely much more cheaper. It's a bit of a hustle getting it into the country, that's true.

"Hustle" is an understatement. I've just had a week of hell with a car I bought from Germany. BG customs wouldn't let me over the border and wouldn't let me back. I had to leave the car at the border on Saturday nights and find my way into Sofia. I got no explanation as to what the problem was. It took 3 days to get the car back (with help from a BG friend) and it's cost me a small fortune and was incredibly stressful. The car is now in a bonded warehouse in Bourgas until I pay around £900 duty. The car only cost £1200. I would have just left it there if it wasn't marked in my passport that I'd bought a car into the country. To make things worse, I'm having similar problems with my things that I'm having shipped over with a haulage comany. Bulgaria is not my favourite country at the moment. I'm sure I'll get over it. If anyone want advice for what not to do when importing at car to BG then let me know.
