View Full Version : A suggestion - maybe useful?
Hello to everybody here. :)
Being a language lover, and a member of a number of international sites, several months ago I decided to start learning Bulgarian both from the books and online. But then I realized that online you can learn almost any language for free, because there are always people who are willing to help, EXCEPT BULGARIAN. I couldn't find A SINGLE ONE free interactive Bulgarian course.
Is it really obligatory that we have to pay to exchange our experiences? I saw many Bulgarian people who are ready and eager to share their knowledge and to get help with other languages, but they obviously can't afford paying (as well as me) for "golden membership", or whatever it's called on that type of sites.
My suggestion is that we start something like that here - for free.
Best regards from Serbia,
Duda :)

You are from Serbia. Are you a Serb? If so I'd like to tell you that your language in my opinion is the sexiest in the world! :) I try to imitate it when I'm with my girlfriend. Anyway, I'm willing to help with the Bulgarian from time to time. Especially to someone who is a native English speaker and who'll correct my English.

bulgarianlawyer, from your first few posts I would suggest that your English is probably better that many native born Englanders, now if only I could get to grips with Bulgarian ..........

Thank you Woodman! I know it’s not true but still it feels nice to hear this. Bulgarian has much more complex grammar than English, no doubt about that. But there’s a small compensation: the spelling is as simple as they come. You pronounce what you read and write what is pronounced.
Hi Dudu,
I agree it is very frustrating not having an online site. I have composed several pages of Bulgarian words and the equivalent English words complete with pictures. My problem is I don't know how to make a web page. I have all the pages just waiting to be "up loaded" or whatever you call it. I will allow free access to.
If you wish to learn French, German, Spanish there is any amount on the net. Why hasn't some enterprising Bulgarian begun a site to help people learn basic Bulgarian for free, like other sites?

Stupod,
if you don't know how to make a site I suggest to open a free blog at wordpress or blogspot at this moment and drop your content there :)
I would like to learn some basic Bulgarian!

I don’t know about the sites, I haven’t checked as I already speak the language. What I’d like to warn you that it’s a hard tongue to learn. Take it from me – I am a Bulgarian. The grammar is especially complex. Just the tenses are over 30! If one is not willing to invest hundreds of hours, he’ll hardly learn even the basics. Learning words alone will not suffice.

Oh yes! The Bulgarian grammar is very difficult. For example "kupuvam" or "kupya". I took private lessons and now I'm able to chat with the Bulgarian people. But only with a lot of mistakes and very basic. But this is not a problem, because the Bulgarians a very happy if one tries to learn their language. And I would never go to Bulgaria without my little dictionary! ;)

May be we could be mutually useful. My native tongue is Bulgarian and yours is English. We could talk on skype: ten minutes in Bulgarian when I’ll correct you and ten in English when you’ll correct me. If you (or anybody else!) are interested, in Skype I’m bogorov1. If you are determined, I will teach you. No grammar, no thinking, just repeating until it becomes automatic. This is how I learned English. However although I have no problems understanding the spoken English I rarely have the opportunity to speak it.

Still, if any native English language speaker learns Bulgarian, I offer the same barter.

What kind of help are you looking for? Most Croatians can understand Bulgarian and can make themselves understood. :)
