Some 400 plots of land around the villages of Topola and Bozurec near Kavarna (the northern Black Sea coast) were sold like hot cakes, announced the Municipal Real Estate Department in Kavarna. A bid reached 20 levs per sq.m (1 euro = 1.95 levs) while the initial price was 12 levs per sq.m. Compared with 2003, the real estate prices in the region grew nearly 15 times. The municipality of Kavarna will auction another 100 plots in Topola and nearly 200 in Bozhurets in February and March. The initial bid price will be 15 levs per sq.m. The buyers are mainly physical persons, brokers and real estate agencies who buy the land to build country houses. They also mediate for the new owners, mainly foreigners. Except Britons, there are two American families who erected twin country houses in Topola.

The expected revenues for the new fiscal year in the municipality of Kavarna are 3 million levs, compared with 2.052 million levs for 2005. The town hall no longer depends on money from the sale of land. On Tuesday, the Municipal Council will propose that the sanitation tax is lowered and that the reteable value is raised. The aim is to encourage construction in the region.
