Today, June 29 is the fourth annual International Danube Day. The campaign's purpose is to provoke and mobilize local municipalities, living in the countries, situated on the riverside to get to know and to estimate their cultural treasure.
The unity of the diversity of the Danube side traditions, crafts and manners express the real power of River's wealth. In Bulgaria the campaign will pass under the motto: ‘The power of Danube River is hidden in our traditions'.
The initiative is organized by the Ministry of Environment and Waters, Basin Direction Danube River (Pleven) and International Commission for the Protection of Danube River (ICPDR). Main sponsor of the event is Coca-Cola.
All initiatives today aims to develop and to contribute for the unity between the countries in the Danube basin. The different activities on local, regional and national level should be catalyzed.
These way citizens will strength their sense for sharing one common territory and will present the Danube River as one natural and historical connection between Europe's nations.
More than 3,5 million Bulgarians live on the riverside and its feeders. With the local cultural heritage and traditions, we are part from the big family of the Danube cultures.
On the occasion of the International Danube Day, Ministry of Environment and Waters and Danube municipalities had organized different initiatives to celebrate June 29.
