The British Prime Minister Tony Blair met with the parents of the AIDS-contaminated children in Libya. He claimed that they had suffered major tragedy and the UK people are completely sympathetic with them.
Blair assured that London would continue to give support in every possible way and added that the progress in this problem would contribute to the improvement of the relations between the international community and Libya.
The British Prime Minister had also talks with the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. According to Tony Blair the relations between the two countries are completely transformed in the last years. They have strong cooperation in the field of security and terrorism fighting.
Meanwhile radio Deutsche Welle announced that an international plan for the shifting of the Bulgarian nurses from the Judeyda prison to a hotel, is in progress. The radio's information is from a European commission source.
The source also stressed that international fund for helping the contaminated children had collected a large enough sum, which probably would satisfy their families. Only the EU has paid in more than 2M euro and there is also generous funding from other international bodies.
A near solution of the Libyan case predicted also lawyer Giovani di Stefano, close friend of Gaddafi family and a defender of Libyan interests on several cases including the Lockerbie one.
“Gaddafi wants to reintegrate and is ready to do something for this”, claimed di Stefano. According to him, Gaddafi cannot remain hostage of the 300 families.
Di Stefano pointed also out that a high-up government intervention could help and no wonder if Gaddafi lets the nurses go home. “The Libyan leader likes to talk in person and maybe it is time some high official from Sofia to visit him”, believes di Steffano.
