Our efforts should be assessed realistically, said Bulgaria's Minister of Interior Rumen Petkov during his visit to London

"The Bulgarians pose no threat to Great Britain," concluded their talks Bulgaria's Minister of Interior Rumen Petkov and Home Secretary John Reid. Petkov attended the conference of justice and home affairs ministers in London "Meeting New Security Challenges in Enlarged Europe." Petkov is the first Bulgarian minister of interior affairs who visits Home Office.
The British special services expected that after Bulgaria's EU accession the Bulgarian immigrants would choose Great Britain, but this didn't come true. Besides, at the end of last year, only nine Bulgarians were among the inmates of British jails, Petkov explained.
According to him, Bulgaria should be realistically assessed. He explained that some three hundred "critical" cases were registered at the Black Sea border of Bulgaria in Bourgas last year.
"The security of the Black Sea borders is one of the EU's biggest concerns, because the word is about contraband, trafficking in people, drugs, firearms and dual use goods. The Bulgarian border police is part of the European border control forces, Rumen Petkov said.
John Reid expressed his opinion that confiscation of bank accounts and real estates of criminal bosses was the most effective method for combating organized crime.
The efforts you make after EU accession are really big, said Joan Ryan, Under-Secretary for nationality, citizenship and immigration.
Bulgaria does its best in the struggle against corruption and organized crime. In this sphere the country has made a considerable progress, she added.

As the British government seem to have no idea of how to estimate or calculate the number of immigrants from anywhere I would suggest Rumen
Petkov has probably the more accurate view.
