One of the Bulgarian beliefs about the origin of the world says “In the beginning was water...”. In Bulgarian legends and customs water is “living, enlivening” and “golden”, it is able to cleanse and create life.
The performers and authors of the music are Elitza Todorova and Stoyan Yankoulov duo set up five years ago with the idea to translated the energy and wisdom of the olden traditions and folklore into the dynamic language of today. And they are very successful in this, as the song elected to be the Bulgarian contender in the prestigious forum The song can be described as an original enthno-play. Different folk elements are intertwined in it, in line with the modern world and ethno approach. The Bulgarian tune on which the song is based is an authentic folk song from the Shoppe ethno-musical region in Central Western Bulgaria. However, both the song and the lyrics have been considerably changed in arrangement in line with the general idea of the 3-minute long song. The arrangement also includes other Bulgarian folk motifs and African tribal house beats in virtuoso performance on percussion instruments. The lyrics are attributed to Elitza, who is also the vocal.
The song will be presented by the percussion duo at concerts in Italy, France, the United Kingdom and Portugal as well as in the Upstream Danubean music festival, to be opened soon. The video, produced by the Bulgarian National Television can be seen in several web-suites, the one of the Bulgarian National Radio included. On Friday, March 17, a film about Stoyan and Elitza, shot by the BNT, will have its first-night.
