"The number of Bulgarian and Romanian immigrants to the UK could be limited if the two countries join the EU on January 1, 2007," Great Britain's Secretary of State for the Home Office John Reid stated cited by Reuters.
According to Mr. Reid, the immigrants from the two countries should be "controlled carefully", because the further EU enlargement will influence crime and civil order protection.
London announced in August that it was going to apply a point system to find out if the qualifications of the immigrants correspond to the needs of the UK, Reuters reminded.
Home Office Secretary John Reid specified that British authorities had already started cooperating with Bulgaria's and Romania's governments for defining the new challenges.
