In an interview for The Times Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev said that a huge migration wave would not occur after Bulgaria's EU entry, as the cold weather was going to keep Bulgarians away from the UK.

According to estimates nearly 600 000 Eastern Europeans are expected to seek employment in the UK. A number of British officials and company representatives already demanded restrictions on labourer migration.

“I am afraid I will disappoint the British media. We don’t have so many qualified plumbers,” Stanishev said.

In case Britain's open door policy ended, migrant workers were going to enter the country illegally, Stanishev said. “If you limit the possibilities from Bulgaria and Romania you will have illegal immigrants from Africa and Asia. I don’t know in this unsafe security world if this is a better option“, Stanishev said.

Most Bulgarian workers were migrating to South European countries and the inflow of labourers to the UK was going to be insignificant, said Stanishev.

In addition, Bulgaria's economy was developing and unemployment was going to be taken further down, Stanishev told The Times.

Cold weather - will keep bulgarians out of UK -- hmmmmm -- Bulgaria has cold weather too -- l have already packed my thermals for christmas trip -- you know the pink ones like the cowboys wear -- with the big buttons at back lol . Im not so sure about the plumbers but l know there is a definate skills shortage here . l lived through the BaroneesThatcher years when no training was given for the less academic. Now we have these things called moderen apprenticeships - but nobody trusts the youngsters that are fast tracked through these schemes. l think the important thing for any Bulgarian thinking of working here is that they come and see what the life style is like first. The press are always moaning about something anyway -- sells newspapers `the sun`` has been scare mongering Bulgaria non stop -- well so l hear because l do not read rag journals. But straight of as soon as Bulgaria is mentioned my phone starts ringing. Well im sorry folks im married to a Bulgarian but im not responsible for what the newspapers write. People should just get out there and integrate -- l dont think there will be some mass exodus from Bulgarian or Romanian folk - people that have family already here might want to come . The Polish that come here only seem to come 4 months at a time and fill jobs that some are not prepared to do , but to settle here l actualy think your avaerage Bulgarian will need some kind of support either a friend or family here that can help them with intial costs and some place to stay . Two Bulgarians working not far from where l live are filleting fish 6 days a week -- sorry l dont think that is what they came here for .But maybe who knows maybe they can pay our large rents and still be able to save enough to go home now and again . thanks for reading my ramblings
