Britain’s interior ministry was considering manners of stopping the immigration wave expected from Southeastern Europe once Bulgaria and Romania became EU members, Mail on Sunday reported.

Nearly 300 000 Bulgarians and Romanians were expected to travel to the UK in 2007, Darik Radio reported.

At the same time human rights laws state that regulations applying for immigrants already in the country should be valid for newcomers as well. Nearly 600 000 Polish immigrants already live in the UK.

By the end of the year British ministers need to decide on the access of Bulgarian and Romanian workers to the UK labour market.

According to interior ministry sources some restrictions might be enforced for the newcomers from Bulgaria and Romania. According to Mail on Sunday Bulgarian and Romanian living standards were below those in Poland.

One of the options involves the issuing of limited number of labour permits, the newspaper reported.

The fact that the British government are addressing concerns about immigration from eastern Europe is a good thing. The integration issues that have arisen from the massive influx of young Polish, have been significant and widespread. I understand and appreciate that they are only trying to find a better life that cannot be found with such ease in their own country, although you must appreciate that the majority of the the global population would like to come to England for just that reason.

Our government estimated 13,000 Polish would come to the UK, now we have close to a million, and it is stirring up a significant amount of resentment and tension.

The BNP have gained more public support over the last few years than ever before, the primary "fuel" for this resurrection?.......Eastern european immigration.

Much as the citizens of Eastern Europe have a right to a chance for a better life, the citizens of the UK have a right to protect theirs.
