On June 9 Sofia mayor Boiko Borissov opened the new Mall of Sofia.
The new mall is Bulgaria's largest entertainment and trade centre, Focus news agency reported. Its construction was the first investment of General Electric in the country. The company invested over 100 million leva.
The centre offers over 70 000 sq m of trade area, 135 stores and 12 cinema halls. The mall also has an underground parking lot with capacity of 700 vehicles.
US ambassador to Bulgaria John Beyrle and former Sofia mayor Stefan Sofianski also attended the ceremony. Beyrle said that the mall was the third large US investment in Bulgaria this week. The other investments include the construction of the thermal power plant Maritsa Iztok and the Hewlett-Packard centre, offering over 1 000 work places.
