"The Black Sea region will be faced with serious political instability, if the accession of Bulgaria and Romania into the EU is delayed with one year," the Financial Time writes.
The newspaper quotes Martin Schulz, Chairman of the Group of the Party of European Socialists at the European Parliament, saying that the delay of Bulgaria and Romania's EU accession will give rise to nationalism and populism in the two countries.
But the Financial Times also offers the opposite viewpoint, quoting Elmar Brok, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament; he calls it a shakedown to say that the delay of Bulgaria and Romania's accession into the EU for 2008 will cause instability in the region.
"Just the opposite is true - when an unprepared country joins the Union, instability arises," he said.
