Italians are planning to invest EUR 1 M in cultural-historical sites in Bulgaria, reports state.
The investors are willing to launch projects connected to the preservation and restoration of well-known monuments, Culture Minister Stefan Danailov has said for the Bulgarian National TV (BNT). Two projects - one in Kazanlak in Central Bulgaria and one in Nikopol at the Danube have already been completed, Danailov added.
The minister explained that the law regulating monuments is not respected and that brings forth the need for creating a special department in the ministry dealing with preserving the country's historical heritage. This new department would monitor the condition of monuments throughout the country and that of the cultural and archeological preserves.
The bulk of Italian investments is expected over 2007, Danailov said, quoting a contract between the Ministry of Culture and the Governor of Naples. It is still unclear which sites Italy would invest in.
