Bulgaria remains on watch after the first registered bird flu case in the country.
Agriculture Minister Nihat Kabil told reporters on Saturday that there has been no change in the situation. We are preparing the probe that will be sent to London for tests, Kabil explained. He also specified that should the probe prove positive the measures in the country would be tightened.
Final results will be known in a week, Nihat Kabil said.

On Friday it was confirmed that authorities have probably detected the first bird flu case in Bulgaria. At an emergency press conference on Friday afternoon Minister Kabil said the bird-killing H5 virus was found in a dead swan pulled out from the Danube on January 31.
Although on Friday Kabil was tentative to say if the deadly avian flu has spread on Bulgarian territory, he now explained that the bird most probably came from Romania.

The swan was found alive but died after showing symptoms of shaking and partial paralysis.
Located between Romania and Turkey, both been hit by outbreaks of H5N1 strain, Bulgaria has been seen as a possible destination for the virus.
Bulgaria has banned poultry from its neighbours, forbidden the hunting of wild birds, told farmers to keep domestic fowl indoors and has stepped up surveillance of migratory birds in wetland areas.

The highly pathogenic strain H5N1 has killed at least 86 people and caused culling millions of birds since 2003.
